Jacksonville Jaguars or Detroit Lions? Awaiting a call on NFL Draft day was an interesting experience.  Having calls from prospective NFL Teams and not having a team draft me was a let down, to say the least.

“Leading by Reading”

 Luke Week One Study Questions

I was looking to prove myself after signing a free-agent contract with the Detroit Lions.   I was injured in the last play of our second mini-camp (more on this later) and eventually learned I was released via my father-in-law who heard it on WNIR Radio in Akron, Ohio.

By that point I was “drafted” by God into His Kingdom.  Repenting from my sins, believing in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and eternal salvation.  I was reconciled to my high school sweetheart.  That work started over 14 years ago.

Today, I have applied the love I once had for the game of football to investing in my relationship with Jesus Christ daily.  I have found what I once believed about marriage to be false and love my wife Molly more today that ever before.  Our love for each other has only grown.  Not to mention, the joys of parenting our six children together is more rewarding than any treasure or possession found on earth.

Marriage and parenting with Jesus Christ at the center is the only way that this is possible.

The focus, determination, and discipline I learned while pursuing my football aspirations have served me well in my pursuit of Jesus Christ.  I like to think that I’ve exchanged the football dreams I once had with daily “Super Bowl” moments I receive by loving God and others.

We would like to encourage you in the Lord; to live a life worthy of God’s divine purpose and calling.  There is no “Greater” way to spend your time.

Luke Week One Study Questions

LEADING BY READING ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP

It’s been nearly a year since we have made a point to sit down as a family read the Word of God everyday as a family. With the help of our friends, representing 13 adults and 26 children, we began meeting every other Friday to discuss the progress, challenges and hold each other accountable to “Leading by Reading”.

We have found it comforting as a family, sitting down and reading each day. Some expected trials and attacks have hit the family, but it seems as if our family of eight is beginning to take the shape of a small church, akin to what we read about in the Book of Acts.

If I am being honest, as a task, it’s easy to sit down and read together as a family. What is difficult is living in obedience to God’s word daily as a husband, parent and small business owner. I find difficultly in leading my family in the daily concerns of life and maintaining focus and trust in the Lord. Without a doubt this act of “Leading by Reading” has relieved my burden as a husband and parent tremendously. The time I spend early in the morning preparing the questions for my family can be tedious, but over time I’ve really come to enjoy it.

We really enjoy seeing our children retain what we read and that more than makes up for the effort put in. Honesty, that is more of a bonus compared to how I am personally benefiting. We are excited to share the questions with you, in order that you can experience the joys that have brought us going through the process.
